These particularly large, white pieces of rock candy, which belong to the East Frisian tea ceremony like wind and waves to the sea, are often referred to as sugar "gems". And few things are as synonymous with a cozy teatime on cold winter days as the quiet crackling of Kluntje rock candy dissolving in the tea. A special charm of rock candy in general, which is particularly evident with the large crystals of Kluntje, is the phenomenon that the sweetness develops very slowly depending on how much you allow the crystals to dissolve.
